There is a very common misconception i come across often whereby client's are surprised that they aren't developing at the right pace and feel frustrated with the company they work for as a result. In reality though, the company is only half the story. YOUR career is perfectly mouldable by YOU with the right mindset and inputs.

Having a mentor on your side will shortcut you to things you probably aren't doing or considering today and this will inject a huge amount of momentum in your early to mid career phase.

You should consider that to some extent you are reliant on your company to give you the support you need to develop and that is not always how things work out. A lack of structure, resources and sometimes even a blocking mentality from the line manager can stifle an employee's motivation, enthusiasm and ultimately, their development. Sometimes you and that company are just not a good fit too!
